Had my 1st car (65 Barracuda w/ 273) up to 125. Not a bright move now that I thing about that. When I bought the car, it had some of the inner fenders cut for headers. No extra bracing was put in so the frame would crack right at the upper control arm :banghead:

Got a little smarter a couple of years later LOL. We were out racing a Corvette with a 5.0 Mustang. The Corvette's digital speedo was showing 152 as we inched ahead. The speedo in the Mustang only went up to 85, but I had it turning 5600 in 5th gear and the car only had 3.08's in it at the time.

I'm much better now...I go to the track if I feel the need for that kinda speed :driving:

Back when my orig 74 was fairly new I hit a long straight away on rt 80 bout 11;30 pm, 3 lanes, a couple a miles of straight new blacktop & not another car in sight, eased the pedal to the metal & held it as long as I dared, a quick glance at 127, it had a little more but I didn't, backed out gently & went on about the task of gettin home(safely) !

Hi Everybody,

Topcatcuda turned me onto this site and I felt compelled to make my first post here. Nice site and I know quite a few of you.

When I was younger, and gas was still in the 50 to 75 cent range, we used to grudge match race at Orange County International Raceway on Wednesday nights. I had another '68 Charger at the time and my best 1/4 mile time in it was 11:34. I'm not sure what speed it was doing when it crossed the line, but I did bury the needle or several occasions on the 55 freeway when it was first built. that would put me in the 150 class.

I baby the ride I have now though... haven't been over 80!

State Trooper charged me with 150 in a 55 but I passed the breathalzer by .01 (they have since reduced the number) ~ lost my license for 1 year and had to pay $600 for reinstatement but I avoided jail by joining the military ;D and I haven't done anything as stupid since then . . .

Oh yeah, primer grey (mostly) 1970 Dodge Charger and try explaining to your mom where you got the booz and why you felt the need to go 95 MPH over the speedlimit at the ripe old age of 17!

Second fastest my colleaque's BMW 635i twin-turbo.. a 200mph limit broken in German highway...

Somewheres in the 105 - 110mph neighborhood in my first 73 (318 4bbl auto w/headers) which is the top car in my avatar back in the late 70's on I 85 leaving Atlanta (Newnan area). Also back around 89 i had a 70 RT (440-4 auto 3.55 rear bone stock w/70k miles on it) returning from Birmingham on I 65 after a World of Wheels Car Show i encountered a 70 or 71 Camaro. We kicked from 55 (remember when you could do that?). By 110 it was all ever except for looking around to see how far back he was  That RT(pictured below) i once took out to a 4 way stop intersection one day with very low humidity and the temp about 70 and floored it from a dead stop. It simply did a donut without even crossing the intersection. Small blocks may be quicker but i was irreversibly hooked on big blocks from then on :burnout: :guitar: :grinyes:

Burpin could have gone faster but it started to shimmy too much at that speed.

I've had that happen quite a few times on the GS1100.  I don't even want to know just how fast I was going, but I couldn't know anyways cause the speedo only goes to 85mph. ::)

Only 180kph. Nothing major, never been into high speed stuff, anyone can drive fast but it's how fast you get there.

Unless your MoPar has Gearvendors or really good gears most stock Honda civics will pass you at top speed.

I don't see the point, I race to just over the speed limit and let tehm get the ticket, I proved myself...... 8) :worship:

It was about 113-120mph I would have gone. Down a farm road that is hard access.

It was "OK" but I'd get more of a thrill out of blowing the doors off a SS Camaro.  ;) :grinyes:

I have gone 120 on my snowmobile before it blew up
I have gone about 800 mph in an airplane   ;D

I doubt that, as that is super sonic, your saying you made a sonic boom.  those are very limited even in Military, (there not allowed to do that in most areas)   unless of course were you or are you a Fighter jet pilot then forget about the previous message.
