What do you do with old Mopar magazines
« on: November 24, 2009 - 09:05:13 PM »
The wife's been on me to thin the growing pile of Mopar magazines.  Though about donating to the local libraries, but wanted to know what others do with theirs.

Oh, good question.  I have MCG mags that go wayyyy back.  I usually give them away to friends and members who want a certain issue. I have seen them for sale on Ebay and bring 3-10 bucks each to :2thumbs:

I agree, send them to the troops would probably be pretty cool. If you have an old issue of a 69 GTX, RoadRunner or Coronet that is Q5 with a white top and gut please hold it for me. I lost my issue and would love to find a replacement. I dont know if its Mopar Action or High Performance Mopar. I told my wife long ago that none of my mags are ever going away or in the trash. If they go, I go   :swaying:

i've kept mine but am going to toss most soon. I want to keep a certain few, all of the ones that highlight the new challenger and such. I think those will be very cool to look at years from now. The "New 2009 Challenger" may be something retro when I'm a bit older. So i'm hanging onto those.

I keep mine. Sending them to troops sounds like a good option. At some of my Mopar club meetings members bring in their old ones for others to take and enjoy. When i get around to it I am going to do like my Dad has done and put them all in magazine binders to help preserve them and make them easier to sort through.

So how often does anyone go back to look for something?  Part of me says "keep, keep, keep" but the other part says the hobby is still moving quickly enough that the old rags are outdated for any really good info.

For example, try finding a 15 year old article about handling that would be able to compare to a Hotchkis or XV system today.  In 1998 (I think) Mopar Action did a huge "handling" article that consisted of trying to fit C-Body pieces in every possible spot. Heck, until last year sometime Ehrenberg was still preaching against using FJM spindles.  Now, they're the next great factory part.

I do wanna keep them, but I'll never build "that database" that keeps me organized and I wonder if they're just more clutter.

Does my time spent here replace the need to dig through the dust...?

I still use mine. I'll be doing something on the car or get ready to do something and remember seeing an article in an old Mopar magazine and go hunting. The scary thing is I usually find it within a couple of minutes and I have almost a decades worth of Mopar magazines.

That's funny, only cuz I have a spreadsheet of all my mags back to the early 90s. I also have a few issues from 1970 that are just freaking awesome to look at now and again because of the huge manufacturer ads from then. But your right, in most cases the tech becomes outdated unless there is something specific you are keeping them for that is kind of off the wall. For instance, I got a series of articles from High performance Mopar about putting a 340 in a Mitsubishi Conquest. You can't find that kind of info anywhere anymore.

If you really don't want the mags, donate to the troops or sell them at a swap meet. most libraries will probably decline them.
