Intake manifold securing...426 Hemi
« on: November 14, 2003 - 08:02:08 AM »
I have a book that says the 426 street Hemi intake manifold (66-71) was secured with 2 studs as well as screws. It says the studs are located on the right front and left rear corners of the manifold. My question is this....why did they do this and are the studs supposed to have nuts or are they just for locating the manifold?

The studs would have threads & use nuts to tighten the intake, these hold the gasket in place & help line up the intake when installing it

Thanks Chryco. that's what I thought. Unfortunately the idiot that last put this motor together did not install the correct length studs and even cut some of them off flush with the manifold. Looks like I'll have to remove the manifold to get the studs out. This all started because the ignition wire bracket on the left front corner of the manifold is attached with the throttle spring bracket screw instead of the manifold screw (which is actually, and incorrectly I believe) attached with a broken off stud...I can't get the air cleaner on if I leave it where it is so I figure it's in the wrong spot.
