You may be right. I had in the remarks section those carbs for low perf and there is R/T on his picture so I went with hp. :dunno: And he doesn't have air for the 4732 carb

:iagree: Or possibly a Carter AVS 4734 which has an Emission Control System (E.C.S). My reference books don't show either of the above numbers as having A/C either, both are stated simply as 383 A/T 1970 Carter AVS models - weird.

I have a 70 R/T with a 383 mag. auto. but it has a/c, and i know for sure it came with a holley carb, and the guy that had the car before me had galen decode it from the build sheet and it had a part number of  R4369A 4160 series carb. A few years back, my friend had a 383 cuda  all original, and also had the same holley.

Good points, wonder what determined which engines got which carbs?
My 440ci is a numbers matching car & still had the factory AVS Carter in place when I purchased it.

Here are the only possibilities for factory carburetors for 1970 383 engines:

Wow thats confusing!

looks like maybe I really have 3 that fit my situation....Carter 4726, 4732, 4736

I assume that the reg 383 engine got one of these and the 383 Magnum the other so which one could it be?

Hello Folks,  I had a new `70 Cuda 383 Commando (Same as Dodge Magnum) MT no AC which I ordered early in the year.  My brother ordered one at the same time.  We had 2 of the first ones of these cars in this area.  Both came w/ a Holley.  I dont remember the series # of the carb, but somewhere in the specs it said it was a 735CFM.  Both cars ran great, but my brothers car got terrible gas mileage, (who cares when Hi Test was about 28 cents per gal), while mine would get 20 mpg on the road if you stayed out of the 4 bl.  I am not a fan of Holley carbs, but this one was one of the best I ever had. I currently have a Holley on my Challenger w/ 360, but its off idle response is iffy, & I havent been able to tune it out.  Also, when you take it apart, it is very hard to get it back together w/o it leaking.  I think I am going to put the thermoquad back on it.  Happy motoring folks.   OVMF
