Newbee here with a problem
« on: July 04, 2019 - 07:35:50 pm »
My name is Mark and I am assembling a restored 1970 cuda steering column.
All the original hard pards are the same.
The crush can wont seat!
Splines look good.
I am lining up the large spline.
Can falls right on but stops dead about half way down.
Ive done many of these with no issue.
I give up.
Has anybody experienced this before?

I'll welcome you to the site, but I've no knowledge regarding the issue you describe. Hopefully someone else here, will.

Are you sure the rest of the column is where it is supposed to be? Meaning, are you sure the part of the column that sits below the crush can is in the right spot? That said, I've never had a crush can stop half way down the splines. How about some history here, are all of these parts (to include the can) from the same column? Meaning, were they once all assembled?
