oil filter gaskets
« on: August 29, 2017 - 06:15:56 am »
I have new oil filter adapter gaskets I am going to install, however I'm not sure of the way the small cork gasket goes. I think the small fiber gasket goes under the bolt. does the cork gasket go under the adapter?

Here's a couple pictures from my 1970 / 71 Parts Catalogue. It doesn't show anything under the adapter.  :dunno:   :2cents:

Here's one I found on the web. It doesn't mention cork and fiber, rather they're called nylon and copper.

Most replacement 3-piece gasket kits for the 90-degree adapter have the fiber and cork gaskets... the fiber one (thin) goes on the head of the mounting bolt, and the cork one (thick) goes on the bolt between the 90-degree adapter and the block. Large diameter gasket goes on block (make sure old one is removed before putting new one on).

Make sure to torque mounting bolt to spec, or expect leaks.
