I went to my local dodge dealer yesterday to inquire about purchasing a new dodge challenger demon.
The dealer said he has 2 allocated to him.
The price would be msrp- approx 97k & tax & dealer fees.
PLUS an additional 50k dealer premium.
As I started to get up to leave, he told me every dealer is doing this.
He also showed me on ebay where the dealers are doing this-
selling their allocated car for 50-60k PLUS msrp.
I called chrysler this morning to complain.
The rep started the conversation with
"how can I help you today"
I responded with get me a demon at msrp.
I then went on to tell him what's going on.
He took my current vin #, as I told him I owned
2 dodge challengers now, put me on hold for 5 minutes.
When he came back he said MSRP is the mfg suggested
retail price- DUH.
Then he said the dealers can charge whatever they want
for the cars they sell. I told him that MSRP is the starting point
for negotiations & then you negotiate down.
You DON'T pay more than 50% ABOVE msrp.
He hemmed & hawed & I told him look, I know you are a chrysler employee,
you are covering up this practice. If we were sitting at a bar
having a few drinks you would be on my side.
He then asked if he could help me out with anything else.
IDK, but to me, this is BS.
Chrysler is BS for turning their heads away from it.
What do you think?
