Dealers adding 50K premium on top of msrp 4 Demon
« on: July 05, 2017 - 09:20:03 am »
I went to my local dodge dealer yesterday to inquire about purchasing a new dodge challenger demon.
The dealer said he has 2 allocated to him.
The price would be msrp- approx 97k & tax & dealer fees.
PLUS an additional 50k dealer premium.
As I started to get up to leave, he told me every dealer is doing this.
He also showed me on ebay where the dealers are doing this-
selling their allocated car for 50-60k PLUS msrp.

I called chrysler this morning to complain.
The rep started the conversation with
"how can I help you today"
I responded with get me a demon at msrp.
I then went on to tell him what's going on.
He took my current vin #, as I told him I owned
2 dodge challengers now, put me on hold for 5 minutes.
When he came back he said MSRP is the mfg suggested
retail price- DUH.
Then he said the dealers can charge whatever they want
for the cars they sell. I told him that MSRP is the starting point
for negotiations & then you negotiate down.
You DON'T pay more than 50% ABOVE msrp.
He hemmed & hawed & I told him look, I know you are a chrysler employee,
you are covering up this practice. If we were sitting at a bar
having a few drinks you would be on my side.
He then asked if he could help me out with anything else.

IDK, but to me, this is BS.
Chrysler is BS for turning their heads away from it.
What do you think?

Head over to hellcat.org there is a forum thread about the Demon. Doubt you'll find one at MSRP but there were some dealers posting that had ADM $20K over MSRP. As with the Hellcat, it is a sellers market. Many have also been caught up in the ADM fiasco.

This is a true statement.  The dealer can charge what ever they want.  If you don't like it(I don't like it either) you can go somewhere else.

Some dealers are selling them at MSRP.  Probably not many but some of them are.

I don't have a link to the press release BUT Chrysler is trying to limit the practice by pushing back production on cars that sell for above MSRP.  Basically the press release stated that cars sold to an individual for MSRP will be built first.  Cars sold to an individual with a dealer markup will be built after all MSRP orders are built.  Basically, if you want to charge a high markup, you'll be waiting quite awhile for the car to be built.

This is true, the dealer told me the car would be delivered in January-Feb 2018

There's a local guy on craigslist with a spot to buy a demon from a local dealer and he's trying to sell the rights to his spot for $30k then add msrp

Unless he's a dealer he's gonna lose money.
I've seen auctions on ebay from dealers that sell their allocations from 30-60 grand, on top of msrp.
So whatever they get, it's profit to the bottom line.

I don't know much about ordering cars but I figure he paid $30K for his allocation and now he's trying to get out of it.  :dunno:

Greed. they did it with the Viper then the Challenger.
F the dealers.
No one should purchase the Demon and stick the dealers with the bank interest.
Its about time these greedy pigs get stuck up there azz.

Big money J Leno will I bet get the first one off the line.
The losers were the first Viper and Challenger buyers.
I'll bet they are fuming.

Boy I was told dealers caught selling over msrp were not allowed to get anymore helcats. Well I guess that lasted about a minute. Problem is people will pay and us normal  schmoes are out of luck!

No it's not worth the trouble.
They did the same bs with the hellcat.
If you go on ebay now, 1 out of every 3 challengers for sale are Hellcats.
Why is that, if they are sooooo very good? People are selling em left & right.
IDK if the dealer was bs'ing me but he said the demon would be a one year only car.
Maybe dodge is waiting to see how many millions they will have to spend on warranty repairs on the demon
before deciding whether to bring it back another year.
