440 six-pack cam ?
« on: August 21, 2002 - 08:51:34 AM »
Hi all, I will built a 440 six-pack for a 70 cuda and I want your opinion on the cam. It will have 3.23 sure-grip, stock exhaust
manifold, stage I ported head (Hughes Engines),good aftermarket rod, forged piston and the compression will be around 9.5:1.

Here's my choices :

Comp Cams hydraulic roller #12-423-8
224-230deg. duration @ .050" and .502" .510" lift.

Hughes Engines  hydraulic#HE 2330 BL
223-230deg. duration @ .050" and .504" .515" lift.

I want strong low end torque and power untill 6000 rpm.
If somebody knows any dyno test with these combo please
let me know.

Thanks

Pat

Does comp make a small hydraulic roller for the 440 now ? How are the holding the rollers straight on the cam ?
I have used the Hughes cams & they work well but I don`t have any dyno #s for you  , I would lean towards the Hughes cam if the Comp uses link bars between the lifters , I`ve seen a# of the link bars fail

Sorry my friend, it's my mistake about roller cam in 440.

How was vacuum with the cam you have used ??
Was it more than 230deg. duration ?

Thanks
Pat

I can`t remember  the exact vacuum with that cam , I`ve installed too many this summer already but the vacuum will be better than the .474 Mopar cam & it is a mild profile so the vacuum will be decent

What could be the bigger Hughes Engine cam I can put
with my 3.23 and stock exhaust manifold but ported head ??
And still have plenty of low end torque.

Thanks

I wouldn`t go bigger than the 2330 as you don`t need a converter with it & it will have lots of bottom end

What does Hughes recommend? They should be able to hook you up.
