Rear shock bolt access hole size 71-74 Cuda
« on: August 10, 2018 - 01:10:10 AM »
I am sure it has been covered here but I cannot find it, does anyone know what the hole size is for the rear shock bolt access hole in the trunk for a 71-74 Cuda (am sure it is the same for 71-74 Challengers as well). I know the ply is 1 7/8" but I do not think this is the hole size.

I can't post a photo from phone ,but I took everything out of the trunk and I noticed it looks like the trunk floor has been replaced but this trunk floor does not have the access holes for the shocks. I did find some Rust spots though under the trunk mat.

Yeah sorry.
At least it looks like just surface rust.

Found an easy Android photo resizer, called Photo and Picture Resizer,  just now so that helps .

Need to neutralize that rust.

I found out that the hole size is 1 3/4.

Thanks for the picture.

Yes, I fixed the garage lights and made a little more room , so will be able to work on that rust easier.
The size makes sense so the plug fits tight.
May drill holes while in there also. Current shocks are terrible.

I was never a big fan of those holes or attempting to remove the shocks through them better said mainly because there is a nut on the other side and you need 2 people to get it out many times. On my car you can get the bolt out from under the car on the drivers side but I ended up putting a mount for my fuel lines in a spot on the passenger side that makes getting to the bolt very difficult. So, I am going to have to access it through the trunk I think.

On this car I have Strange coil overs in the rear bc it has a 4 link, on my Challenger I have Bilsteins which are awesome. I have KYBs on it and they absolutely SUCKED. I would have went with QA1's but it came down to money.

Been following your build, definitely not stock suspension so adjustment needed.
Yep , looking at Bilsteins , Viking and QA1 , one day.
On the rust found a product from PPG  , GFX 744 Corroklean 44, citrus based product that I will give a try.
