Sorry to hear that.I spent good money for a Fairbanks street/strip trans and went through THREE of them! The first one lasted barely a half mile and I was lucky to make it back into my driveway before I had no gears.I sent it back and was told it was a bad batch of pumps(cracked) so they sent me another one which slipped betwen shifts. After a lot of hassle I got a third one which I still wasn`t happy with but I kept it untill I decided to do a four speed swap.I have now torn down the last 727 they sent me and my buddy and I are rebiulding it ourselves so it should get done right this time.It will be going in my `69 barracuda project.BTW anyone know if Faibanks is still in business?I haven`t seen any ads from them since a couple years after my wonderfull experience.  ::)

TCI's are garbage too. better off getting one built by a reputable local chrysler tranny guy or having John Cope  of CRT racing transmissions build you one.

727's are definitely not junk. I would focus your frustration at whoever did the rebuild for you.

I'll third the above! The 727 is the BEST auto tranny ever built...PERIOD.

You need to get someone who knows Mopar transmissions....lucky for me I have a friend who is an ace at 727's.

True.Even alot of hard core 4 wheelin guys know the 727 is bomb proof and put them in Jeeps(Pronounced Heeps in spanish).Think about a land barge 60's Chrysler 300 with a 440hp/727.I had an original i stole the engine and tranny out last year and they worked like new, then i junked the rest of the car.Get a good rebuilder. My tranny guy does it on the side and is the top tranny guy at the biggest Chrysler dealership in central calif. He builds them tough and cheap, never blown one yet and they will snap your neck when shifting

Hey CudaGirl, sorry to hear about your trouble.  :gripe:  727's are one of the best most dependable and bullet proof transmissions in the automobile industry. I've tortured 727's for thousands and thousands of miles and never had a problem. I'm with the rest, get after whoever did the rebuild.  :grinyes:
Is the trans junk? If not, get a good builder and have it done right with a nice shift valve and HD bands etc and save a bunch of money, it'll hold up under some pretty severe conditions, drag racing included.

Well i had it rebuilt by one of the best mopar trans builders around here and i dont know what his deal is lately but three of our friends had them done by him and all three broke so he is not getting any more transmissions from anyone we know. The guy was Charlie Wienright in baltimore md.The tci trans is a trans that has a rept and also a warrenty and also frind of ours has one in his challenger and raves about it.So we will see how it holds up.

Thanks for the input though everyone

727's are BULLETPROOF! They still use the same basic design in some of the Dodge truck models today!

That is really some bad luck. I've had two built not just by a Mopar guy but by a Mopar guy who has been drag racing with 727 for about 20 years, except for the shift kits, they are built just like he does them for his drag car, you can slam on they all day long. Good luck with which ever road you go down, but seriously the 727 is my choice.
