Nice looking work. My Challenger came with that same hood restraining device!!! And here I thought it was rare! :bigsmile:Thanks.. Yep, we are the fortunate ones to have the "antique european sportcar hood tie downs" option. :clapping: Started working on this mess last night. Whoever removed the roof skin used a cutoff wheel and a crow bar. That, with the rust outs, is another area I have to guess what it needs to look like when it's finished.
nice work on the rocker repair :2thumbs: serious project you`ve got there.... :jumping: keep going, in the end there`s just sweetness to harvest :burnout: :bigshades:Thanks, Dutch. I hope to end up with something nice when it's done. Having lots of fun getting it there!
Looks like a great project. What engine/trans? Was that a dana rear axle, or... keep us posted. The car was a 318 / 904 with 7.25 rear. It was also originally an S.E. Have a 410 Dana 60 Power Lok on the floor next to the car. Going the 426 fuel inj. and 6 speed route. Also changing the suspension front and rear .... once I have a body to work with, that is! Honestly cant wait to get into the mechanical part of the project. I'm not a body man.
Looks like the wire wheel and welder are you best friends for the next couple months. Good start! When I fall asleep at night I can still see my grinder and my mig gun!
Thanks again for the encouragement! When I fall asleep at night I can still see my grinder and my mig gun!
Finished the rocker and roof structure repairs on the driver's side. Repaired the A-Pillars (will post pics soon - tested my patience a little on that little project!) Ready to slap on a little POR and start hanging panels. :working:
I managed to salvage the old gas tank braces and welded them to the trunk floor. Lots and lots of holes to drill for the floor!
When I used the POR15 on bare metal, I rough sanded the metal with 50-80 grit, but the POr still would not stick very well. Ended up using 2-part etching primer then POR.I rough sanded then used metal etch. I've seen a lot of problems on this board with POR 15. I didn't have any problems at all. :dunno:
I lived in Yakima in the mid 70"s. Spent 2 years at taking the YVCC auto tech program. How's the town doing these days?
....any progress mike...?:grinyes: :naughty: Yep.... Film at eleven.
Looking good, Mike! You're just a few steps ahead of me. OK, maybe more than a few but I'm not too far behind where you are. I'll be redoing the floor after I get the back end sheetmetal on.
Keepu up the good work!
Sean
You betcha, Buddy! I've been keeping an eye on your work (Awesome!). It won't be long and we can show everyone up at some show somewhere!
wow, that is amazing how much work you're got done. :2thumbs:Thanks! When I look back I can agree, but looking ahead it doesn't seem like it.
Here is a trick I used for making those little ribs in the floor pan. I used a ball peen hammer and placed the sheet metal over an open vise. You can work the metal into the half round shapes and if you do little at a time, not rip through.Thanks. I'll have to try that and see.
good to see you`re back at it Mike :2thumbs: just keep on drinking with all that dust... :drunk:Haven't been having beers while working on the car lately, Bart. Hard to get the bottle around the dust mask! :icon16: Too cold for beer anyway! :grinno:
17 more patches and its done. oh and dont forget the other 100 other hidden ones :poopoke::lol: How true! :faint:
Thanks a bunch Bart! I'm pretty motivated right now and realize that if I get past the shell and bodywork, everything left will be gravy! Looking forward to when I'm as far along as you are! :2thumbs:
You are a better man than I am. It almost seems like there is nothing that you can't do.
Keep up the faith and the extremely good work!
what are your plans for the torsionbars? There aren't going to be any torsion bars on this car, my friend.
What type of welder are you using? Here's my welder of choice (at least for this type of work)..... http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200328799_200328799
:22yikes: seems holes are growing bigger and bigger on your car.... :1zhelp:Getting to the end of it Bart! :jumping: Notice how far forward on the car I am now. Will only have cleaning and very minor patching at the engine compartment area.
:iagree:Thanks Bill. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your progress.
wow the work that u have put into that car!!! u sir are one skilled welder and fabricator!!! :wow: :clapping:
she ready for paint yet buddy? :roflsmiley: Not quite yet my friend. Still hacking out the firewall. I'll post photos of my adventure in a couple of days. I did give myself an early birthday gift though:
wow nice b-day gift :wavingflag:A few of many b-day gifts I will give myself this spring! :naughty:
As said,I'd get a new cowl. Don't waste your time with that mess. Thanks! My new firewall, cowl and left inner fender panel are here and patiently waiting behind the car.
:faint: It always looks at it's worst before it looks looks it's best...... Right?
E-BODY = RUST HAHAHAHAI heard you there Bill! Here a couple of weeks ago I thought I was getting close to the end of rust! :grinno:
I should maybe call mine Neil Young, 'cause "rust never sleeps" in the sumbeech! But Mikey, you've got me beat! :scared:What the heck, I have "less" rust today than yesterday! By the way, stand by for pics of the mods I had to do to the cowl sides and door hinge pillars. I'm sure each car will be different, but everyone should know these pieces don't just plug in.
Challenger III,I'm using a mig welder.
Are you using a Mig, Tig, or Oxy/Acc?
I'm using a mig welder.
 :roflsmiley: I have a little bit more done, but I've been moving into a new place. I need to finish welding everything together so I can move it into my new garage.....

Do you ever go to the car show at McDonalds on 40th by fred myers? We (my husband and me) plan on going tonight and would like to meet ya:wave: Can't make it tonight, but we'll have to arrange a meeting soon. Do you have an E-Body? You should post in the newbie section and introduce yourself. I'm always looking forward to meeting local fellow mopar fans!
If you meet the guy, tell him to post some updates.... :jumping:
:useless: :useless:
I want that garage :stomp: :roflsmiley:

Patience my friend.... Lots of updates very soon! :working:
:iagree: Wow! I'm jealous! :grinyes::roflsmiley: :smilielol: You sure have lots of "stuff" Brad!
Lol I will soon. We have a 70 challenger, currently not drivable because the gas tank is mia and the carb is annoying.Very cool! I'm always willing to share any knowledge I can!
on the other hand, step back too long and the unfinshed project may and up on ebag some day... :scared:
yes!!!!! get your asp out in the garage and weld up that cuda
Keep going!Yeah Mike....... I can't wait. :eek4:
You haven't even gotten to the fun part yet.
White dust all over you with body filler and primer stuck on your fingertips.
I seem to have the problem of, when I install something new then the part next to looks like crap ( im my head anyway) then I replace that part, and so on and so on.... I gotta mentally stop myself before I go broke!
I was wondering if you have that problem too? Like with all the new sheetmetal lookin all shiny and new where do you stop? :grinyes:
Not that there's much left to replace though? :roflsmiley:
.... I'm not a body man.
Is there some reason to use those spot welds instead of weld whole side?Welcome to the forum! They look closer to factory if you plug weld them (minus the little pinch weld dimples). It would take forever to seam weld them in.
That's gotta be a relief.Had a really bad time with my ears last winter, but I've been VERY careful with them for a year now. The ringing has been gone for a long time, and are actually better than before I started on this project. It is a relief to be done with the panel hanging for sure! :faint:
Has the ringing in your ears stopped from grinding?
My Tinitus would act up really bad after tons of grinding even while wearing headphones.
Grats!Just doing my part to keep the aftermarket sheet metal industry rolling!
AMD or whoever you bought all that sheet metal from should send you Christmas cards :)
No way Bart! :grinno:
I got more accomplished today: Wet sanded the top of the firewall that is covered by the upper cowl with 240, cleaned with laquer thinner and painted with POR 15. I then sealed the duct opening flanges with NP 1:
I then welded the upper cowl in:
I'll clean up the welds, then it's finally time for the floor! :faint:
Is that a blue dana?Yes it is. Petty Blue?
I think I have the same Billet wheels. What tires are the front's running?205-60-R15. I'm kinda wishing I went with the 215's. The front is going to be pretty low, an I don't want them hitting the fenders in turns.
I plan on running TTI headers and a low profile oil pan to keep everything snugged up under the car. My last one had 195- 70's up front and hookers. It seemed to work O.K.:
I'll know more as I move along.
That car looks alot like this one minus the SE badge.

That car looks alot like this one minus the SE badge.I am absolutely convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you could transform a pile of metal shavings into an entire car! WoW! Exceptional work! And you make it look like one of those tv shows where everything in neat and tidy in a 1/2 hour time slot. lol. Mind boggeling! Very nice work. :ylsuper: (by the way, is that Frank Zappa driving the Challenger in the picture?) :clueless: :dunno:

You definately had the mojo going on it that pic :2thumbs: :cooldancing: :ylsuper: :burnout:
Any updates?:misbehaving: Yes, I have some updates to post. I've been lazy and not downloading from my camera in awhile. I'll get right on it ASAP.
Are you going to have the stance of the car just like it is mocked up there? It looks killer like that. That's the way she'll sit! (Say that three times real fast!). Thanks!
