Tear down is fun, I think so anyways.  What are the original colors, and are you going to keep them?

What is the resto plan?  Green on white stripes and white interior?  Are you keeping it original?  If so what is the original set up?

Hezzel,

Extremely nice project.  Must say that is a lot of options.  Good to see that you are going to stay all original.

The car was bought in Long Island, New York . And i have found fuel tickets from Dix Hills in Long Island. 765 Deer Park
Sunoco. And on the fuel tickets the name John Hepner.

Have had some hopes to find the original owner to see if he or she have some pictures of it when it was new...

Is there someone who can find him or help me locate the owner I would be most grateful.

Thanks /Hezzel

Beautiful. With that many options and with the shape it is in it would be a sin to restore it to anything besides what the tag reflects. Gonna be a looker for sure! Good luck and keep the photos coming!  :2thumbs:

Hi hezzel, Love the GY9 Tawny Gold!  Glad your keeping it orig.  I see you have the ultra rare Y3 Light Gold interior, here are some pics you may find helpful in your restoration; they are from the R/T I owned last year, it also had the Y3 interior but GY8 Gold Leaf Poly exterior.  The interior is original and unrestored and give the correct colors as references are hard to come by. Unfortunately the carpet color is not being reproduced and I've seen people incorrectly use brown instead, here is the correct shade.  Also notice the cream seats and panels but gold dash and headliner.  I hope these are helpful.

Hezzel I think the color combination will look great when you get it done. I owned a 71 Challenger RT 340 4 speed tawny gold GY9 with black vinyl top and black interior back in the mid 80's. The guy I sold it still has it and I hope to buy it back someday. The only good thing about selling it was I soon wanted another 71 Challenger RT so bad that I bought my current lite gunmetal metallic 71 RT to replace my tawny gold one as I couldn't buy mine back. That was back in 1989 and I have kept mine all these years.

Two more pic:s (better than my cellphone)

One of my bucket seats but i don´t think it´s the right upholstery??? Anyone know how it should be??
Title: Re: Challenger 71 R/T
Post by: bb71challenger on November 19, 2007 - 10:08:24 AM
That upholstry is not the right year. It would probably be the 71 Deluxe seat covers(judging by the length of the option list) which I prefer tons over the standard 71 'Cuda and Challenger upholstry.

Post by: MEK-Dangerfield on November 19, 2007 - 11:27:17 AM
That upholstery isn't from an E-Body. It looks to be custom made to me.

Nice going there hezzel. I will be taking much note of what you are doing as I have just started on my 71 convertible and once done will do my 71 R/T.
The R/T has its build sheet so will keep it that way but the convertible does not, so I am making some changes to suit my taste.
Good luck buddy.

Keep it up, looking good!  :2thumbs: Just keep everything labeled and organized, including all the nuts, bolts, clips, gaskets, and especially the wiring so you'll know where everything goes 18 months from now.  I did bag and label everything, but wish I would have spent a bit more time doing this because it would be helping me now!

Check that new gravel pan for fit first. The one we got from YO fit like crap! we ended up stripping the OEM one from the Challenger and reusing it.

Thats a big 10-4 on that advice. If my old one was in the shape yours is I would have reused it. Mine came off a Lemon Twist R/T that had been hit in the back I guess because that thing is all full of bondo and even rivets  :puke:
Your old one looks to be in pretty good shape unless it is really rusty. The YearOne pan I bought fit good on one side but like crap on the other side like it was not crimped right. Also if you compare the tabs where it bolts up you will find they dont line up right with the quarter. Its nice that we have new tin to fix our cars, I just wish it all fit better.

Instead of copying the "dirrect link" in photobucket, try copying the "img" code.  That will let your pictures show up in your posts.

Keep up the great work.

Hey Hezzel,
Just checked out your thread, I didn't realize that we had the exact same paint and interior colors.  I have some pics of my original interior if you need them.  I wont need them anymore as everything on my car will be different when shes finished.  Looks like you are doing an awesome job.  Good Luck!

Been i while since my last update . Sold the house and bought an apartment about two years ago . Rented two garages . One warm in second hand and One cold in first hand . Was putting the car thogether in the warm garage when the owner needed it so the car went to My cold garage and there it's sitting under a car cover 😞 . Next step will be engine and all the other stuff in when it gets warm enough.
