New Challenger Diet
« on: August 15, 2014 - 10:21:21 AM »
I'm not a new challenger owner, but I'm thinking about buying one. To my untrained eye, seems the biggest penalty to the chally is the excessive weight, especially compared to the mustang. Is there anything you can do to remove excess weight while still keeping the car daily driver comfortable?

I'm not seeing it. The added wait is mostly because of creature comforts and for safety, so you probably wouldn't want to remove those from a daily driver.

Just a random article on the net.

However, a package is more than the sum of its parts. While the Mustang GT500 is down on power, its curb weight tips the scales at 3,845 pounds, a whopping 600 pounds less than the hefty Hellcat. The Camaro ZL1 is comparable with the GT500 at just 3,860 pounds when paired with the manual transmission (4120 pounds with an automatic). The GT500 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and reach a cosmic top speed of 202 mph. Given the weight advantage of the Shelby and slightly smaller frontal area, we highly doubt the Hellcat Challenger SRT will surpass the Shelby despite the horsepower advantage.

All new challengers are heavier than their mustang counterparts, I believe.

I'm sure there is a lot of insulation that could be removed.  The factory got a good deal of weight out of the Drag Pak cars.  Pull out the interior and see what can be removed.

Hellcat chally is faster in the quarter than a gt500, and a hellcat charger sedan matches gt500 top speed of 202

I have no doubt the Mustangs and Camaros weigh less than the Challenger.

Their back seats are a joke though.

I'm someone that owned a "new" Mustang. I just got tired of having to step down to get in the car(I'm 6'2"). I'm not as young as I used to be.   :grinno:

Just drove an SRT8 Core tonight. I liked it but I think I will wait for the 2015 scat pack with the 8 speed trans.

Loved it. Good power. I think my 340 Cuda with 4.10s could keep up with it through the eighth, but after that the Srt would take over. It didn't feel heavy, it handled great. But I was limited with what I could do with a 30 minute test drive and the salesman in the back, lol.

I'm so used to old cars that it feels too smooth to be going fast.
