Hello, newbie here. For those who missed my newbie post I recently purchased my second 70 'Cuda. My first 'Cuda was purchased in Oct '69. It was a special order: 383 Magnum, 4-Speed pistol grip w/floor console, 3.55 posi rear end, Rallye Dash, Triple black, AC, no power steering, AM/FM multi-plex radio with rear window defogger, & 15" steelies. $4200 OTD. Like a fool I sold it three years later for $2800.
Almost bought the car back a year later but the owner had trashed it and it was going to be our primary driver and my wife didn't want to drive it with no power steering. So I passed.
Have searched for the car several times since and can find no record of it. It's probably been scraped.
Anyway recently retired and have been looking for another '70 Cuda. I found one here in Utah that has been in storage since 1983. It's a matching numbers 440 U code, Shaker hood, 4 speed with center console, Dana rear end, AM tape player and Rallye dash and 15 inch Rallye wheels. The car will need a new trunk pan and some spots behind the rear window fixed, but otherwise there is minimal rust. The car had been in a accident which damaged both rear quarters. One was replaced and the other sectioned. A very poor job was done and some body work will be required to fix right. Otherwise the body is very straight and sound. The person I purchased it from was the second owner and had begun dismantling the car for a cosmetic restoration. He had the engine and trans rebuilt, the seats recovered and a new dash pad installed. However, he lost interest and it's still in pieces. The engine has been on a stand since 1983 and is frozen. Probably never been turned over in that time and I'm assuming the rings have rusted to the cylinder walls. (hopefully) Anyway I'll disassemble the engine and go through everything before I install. The car will be a driver, car shows, cruize night, Sunday drives. However, I still intend to restore it to as stock condition as I can. I will restore and re-use as many parts/components as possibles including bolts and screws, etc. So far the only thing I have found missing are the the Fog lights and the clock for the rallye dash. Everything else seems to be there. I'm a pretty good back yard mechanic and have done all my own mechanical work since I was 16. My son is a certified mechanic and my best friend is a great paint and body man. So between the three of us and with your help we should be able to get this thing back together and running, hopefully in 2-3 years depending on finances. Since I purchased it I've been slowing finishing the dismantle for a rotisserie restoration. As of today the only thing left is the front suspension and front and rear widows. Hopefully it will go in for media blasting within the next two weeks.
