Vintage Air Install 70 Barracuda BB
« on: July 14, 2019 - 11:41:09 AM »
I am getting ready to install vintage air on my non air 1970 383 4 speed Barracuda.  Just curious if those who have done this in the past could share any pitfalls/tricks/tips learned from their experience I would appreciate it greatly

I'm about 2/3 of the way through this install, just figured out that I need different pulleys (will be here tomorrow).  The installation is far more involved than the instructions would lead you to believe, and some of the instructions are downright incorrect.  Will be glad to put this behind me lol

Because I have a rack and pinion installed the a/c compressor bracket will not work in my car.  I am just going to go serpentine on it.  It will add a few days delay but at least I wont have to worry about squealing belts lol

Not sure the serpentine system will eliminate the chance of squealing noise . . . certainly still could have issues . . .

out of 6 serpentine retrofits on different lsa/ls swaps I have never had an issue.  I cannot say the same for retaining v belts on classics.

Finally finished this up , turned out to be far more of a bear than I expected. some of which was just the modifications on my car.

To simplify the compressor mounting I went ahead and purchased the cvf serpentine kit.  Initially I was shipped the wrong spacers so the pulleys didn't align but CVF overnighted the correct ones to me and all was right in the world.  Once the pulley setup was taken care of it went fairly smoothly.

Overall the instructions are very lacking on the vintage air side in my opinion and some of it is just wrong.  Once installed however the kit works very well, blows very strong and I am very happy with the end result.

I'd love to see some pictures if you have them.  This is one of those things still on my list.

Hope it performs well for a long time.
