5.7 question
« on: September 23, 2016 - 09:42:44 AM »
I have an '04 5.7 Hemi that came from a truck. I want to put a 5 or 6 speed manual trans behind it in my wife's '70 Challenger. I have been told that 'any' modern factory trans will bolt up, is this true? I have found manual trans on eBay from '12-15 Challengers that are quite reasonable (from LKQ). Can I ASSUME that any trans from a car with a 5.7 will bolt up? Thanks in advance for any help. Mark the fireman

Should be no problem , the only thing I can think of is the pilot brg in the back of the crank assuming the engine came out of a truck with an auto trans .
You will need the belhousing & clutch & the Viper 6 spd was an option with the 5.7 Hemi , the big issue is not the engine trans but the floor mods ro clear the much larger 6 spd & rear crossmember for the trans

What are you trying to put it in?

Generally the Tremec TR6060 is the factory trans of choice but they do not come with a very ideal shifter location for an old Mopar. The passenger side starter adds a little more difficulty as well. As mentioned, you can kiss the tunnel and torsion bar crossmember goodbye, it takes pretty considerable modification.

I went with the T56 Magnum (Hot Rod friend TR6060) for my 5.7L Hemi.

have you looked at Mcleod? they have a new 5spd manual for classic upgrades. If I remember correctly they built it small to fit most tunnels and the 1st production version went into a Cuda.
