Clicking Sound In Dash
« on: August 12, 2018 - 03:16:40 PM »
While I was working my my wiring in the dash. I could hear a click about every 5 to 10 seconds. It is coming from the headlight and dimmer switch area. Got any ideas what it would be I forgot to say its in a 70 cuda. When it clicks it will dim the interior light. Thanks Dirk

Sounds like a relay of some type. Need to get under there and see if you can find where its coming from. Obviously its drawing current which is why the interior lights are dimming.

hey 70chall440 is the 2 bolts or screwsthat hold the fuse box tighter. Not the ones that hold it to the firewall, There are 2 holes one in each corner that have hole with a steel insert. They look like they would take a small bolt Thanks Dirk

They are large like #10 or #12. Nothing special about them really.

More on the clicking noise in dash. It is coming from the dimmer switch below the headlight switch. I had to pull my grille out so I had to unplug my signal and parking lights. So I put the positive gable back on my headlights brake an taillights an interior light on the head liner no more click or dimming. So shouldn't the dimmer switch turn on the interior light with the doors closed an wouldn't u be able to dim the panel lights in the dash which still wont work. Im going to pull the switch out when I get time to see if I missed something up in there. Is there a relay on the dimmer switch. Also aup at the grille I have 2 blacke wires both round female 1 on each side im thinking these are for the road lights that I don't have yet Thanks for the help Dirk

Yes, the dimmer switch should turn on the dome/interior lights when the doors are closed. When the switch is rotated all the way to one side, there should be what feels like a bump or perhaps better said requires more effort to turn the knob (its noticeable), this connects the dome/interior lights and turns them on. Those switches can and do go bad mainly from being rotated back and forth. Many times they can be cleaned up and reused, other times they need to be rebuilt or replaced. Also to your question, as you rotate the knob it should dim the dash lights.

As to the 2 black wires in the front, you are probably correct that they are for your road lamps.
