can't adjust slapstick to lock in Park
« on: July 20, 2020 - 04:22:08 PM »
its hit & miss whether or not the parking paw engages in my '70 cuda, also it won't ratchet into Drive without pushing the button & pushing it almost into Neutral.
This consistent with needing to adjust the linkage to pull backwards more - but I tried & it wouldn't slide anymore rearward - any ideas?

Thanks

I found this adjustment technique - and worked great for me:

Loosen the small bolt that clamps the shift rod (on d/s) to trans lever.
Put the slap stick in first
Push the trans rod fwd manually (while under the car) into 1st.then tighten the bolt on the "box"

thanks

God, it has been a hundred years since I have last posted. Make sure the spring is still attached to the shift mechanism. Most often times it comes off and lays under the console.

I'm kind of sure that the lever on the trans is loose, try to check it out
