gran coupe 383 camshaft selction
« on: January 29, 2019 - 01:52:39 AM »
G'day it been a while
I have a 1970 barracuda gran coupe, and am based in Australia
Finding people in Australia  who know enough about 383' s is difficult to say the least
My car was a 2BBL 383 motor reconditioned +.030"
I am looking for a better cam to fit with the source 440 heads Holley 750?  already fitted
Any recommendations would be appreciated
Cheers david

I'm a fan of Lunati -

They make cams for solid/hydro flat and solid/hydro roller lifters so they have you covered that way.  To really get an answer you need to say what lifter you want to use, and RPM range.  Just be ware that you will probably need to get custom pushrods so that is another expense.

what I have learned over the years when it comes to cams is NOT to take advice online because there are too many variables. What works for one person may not work for another. My advice to you is to email the major cam companies, tell them exactly what you have (engine internals, exhaust system, trans type, rear gears, tire size, etc.) and what you want the car to do (Perform/sound like). I would send the exact same email to Comp, Crane, Lunati, etc. and see what they tell you.

I think you will get much better advice and be happier in your selection.
