The Rest of the Tech / Re: Fuel Tank / Sending Unit Replacement
« Last post by RedKing7 on October 22, 2021 - 12:27:46 PM »
Okay guys I need some follow up help.

I finally got the new sender unit by mail and here is what I've run into.

If I hook up my electric fuel pump to a hose and put it through the tank hole where the sender unit goes, I can pump gas out.

Before I put the sender unit in, I can blow air through the unit with my mouth and hear it come out the other end where the filter is.

However, when I install the unit and hook up the electric fuel pump directly to the sender unit with a short piece of fuel hose I can't get anything out of the sender unit.  So, the questions are:

1) How much gas needs to be in the tank? (I probably have a couple of gallons because the depth appears to be about and inch or so.)

2) How long should it take to saturate the filter on the end of the sender unit so that it can pull gas through the filter and the sender tube?

3) Any other thing that I'm overlooking or should check?

Thanks

Well it depends on a lot of factors mainly how nice and "correct" everything else is. It also depends on when/where the car is being sold, at an auction along side more correct cars it will suffer, out in the wild by itself perhaps not as much. I am sure there is someone who can cite real numbers based on sale analysis but I would estimate a non original motor (NOM) would yield perhaps a 20-50% decrease in value again depending upon many factors. If it is a unique car unto itself meaning it has a lot of options, is in a desirable color and has a lot of documentation (fender tag, build sheet, sales documents, previous owners information, etc) then the NOM probably would not hurt the value near as much. However if it isn't a unique car and doesn't have all of the documentation/provenance then its probably going to have an significant impact. Thats my opinion only, I am sure someone else will disagree.

The door key IS the ignition key and if you're able to remove the door lock cylinder, a good locksmith can cut you a new one off it. The glove box and trunk are the same deal. Good luck

I had removed the cylinder without hiring a locksmith by using the videos shared online by the dealers.

I guess this says a lot about the ability of Magnum starter.  Strong little bugger.  I have spent weeks trying to figure this out.  I should have listened to my wife.  She said it was right there at finger tips I just have to see it.  I though she had to much medical marijuana.

Long story short looks like the flywheel teeth are spinning and not the flywheel.
:bananasmi  Glad you found it. I had a hunch it had something to do with the ring gear, that's why I chimed in with my scenario, but I never heard of one just spinning on the flywheel. Now we know what all that screeching was.

The ring gear is spinning on the flywheel then. Normally the ring gear is put onto the flywheel using heat wherein the ring gear is expanded by heating and then put onto the flywheel and when it cools it contracts to the point where it will not spin. It sounds like your ring gear has become loose somehow. You can get a new ring gear but I would just get a new flywheel.

Long story short looks like the flywheel teeth are spining and not the flywheel.  Took a pry bar and turned the flywheel but the crank isn't turning.  Have you ever heard of this?

Got under car and can see the gear is engaging but not turning the motor.  No teeth are missing or buggered up.  Can see on starter where it has been engaging flywheel no damage to it.  Turned the motor about 1/8 a turn to make sure it's not locked up.  Thoughts?
