I realize at 50 years old or there about most of us don't want to learn any more technology than we have to to get by BUT if you have managed to take a digital photo, uploaded it to your computer, opened it & down sized it, then uploaded it here you have done more than it takes to upload a photo to a photo hosting service such as http://photobucket.com/. Even my 72 year old Mother can use photobucket.
So do this site & it's administrator a favor & host your photos off site so the UPLOADER FULL problem can be minimized.
Thanks
Wade

Me three. :2thumbs:
PhotoBucket, it's so simple even a caveman can use it.
-
yes,,everybody should
-
As I said in another thread Wade, you converted me.
-
I have been using photobucket for a fewe years now as I also belong to hunting and fishing forums and you can well imagine the amount of photos I have to upload on those sites lol - photobucket works great for that
and the all knowing how car enthusiasts enjoy looking at the curves, ridges and lines of beauties (cars) photobucket would be perfect to use here

I read in another post Ross is kicking out a bunch of pics every week :22yikes: thats all lost info there... and its still not enough to keep the uploader going. We all love to share pics here so its the only way :picture:
-
I use Photobucket for almost all my photos. I'm about 75% full on the account right now though. Might have to make another one! ;D
-
Thanks for your support
I see we have one honest man among us.... I'd like to hear from the Don't & Won't crowd.
-
I use it.

Hey Wade. Since you got me started., I have used it some but I know not enough. I wish I had all my restor pics on there but That will take some time.......I think there are about 2000.........
-
I just signed up for photobucket and will use it the next time I post a picture. Can someone explain in simple terms why photobucket (or similar service) is a better way to load pictures?

David, are your old pics on any electronic device, media or anywhere on the internet.. If so you can save them to Photobucket. If you only have prints you would need a scanner.

I ticked the "will look into it" box. I would be happy to make this site run smoother if changing to a photo hosting site will help not that I put up many photos.
A few questions I have as I am in the older generation, closer to a caveman but not 72 yet and haven't read anything about photobucket other than a couple of comments here.
Does it cost and if so how much?
How long do photobucket keep the photos?
Can our photos on photobucket be viewed by others not on this site?
Can I delete my photos on photobucket?
Can photobucket delete my photos without my permission?
Is there a limit to how many photos that can be stored on photobucket?
Is there a size limit on the photos?
I haven't even been to their site yet, suppose I should do it sometime, thanks for all or any answers to my questions.

Other than it is simple to use vs the uploader found here. Your images are not filling up the limited space allotted to photos here. When the upload file is full the administrator has to delete some pictures so new ones can be uploaded..Thus the older posts loose their pictures.

:
Does it cost and if so how much? Basic service is FREE
How long do photobucket keep the photos? We do not know, I have been using them for 2+years...I guess as long as they stay in business
Can our photos on photobucket be viewed by others not on this site? Yes, if you link to a picture here they will see it
Can I delete my photos on photobucket? Yes you can but they will no longer show up anywhere you have linked to them
Can photobucket delete my photos without my permission? I suppose they could but unless it was some kind of objectionble material I don't see why they would.
Is there a limit to how many photos that can be stored on photobucket?Yes, in the FREE account there is a reasonable limit
Is there a size limit on the photos? No, but for the purpose of posting photos here it is best to let them be downsized, I use 17" scree, so that they can be easily viewed. I could see that you may want to keep some photos in maximum resolution for printing, & you do have that option
I haven't even been to their site yet, suppose I should do it sometime, thanks for all or any answers to my questions.
Another good thing is if you email photos in large quatities you know how long it can take to send & receive , with photobucket you just email a link.
-
I've been using the Bucket ever since AOL did away with their free FTP space. Nowhere near filling all that space...LOL.
-
Thanks Bullitt, I better make some time to check them out.
-
I use Google/Picassa's web Albums.
Works for me and is bone simple to use.
-
I voted for don't use it but will look into it. It was a toss up between that and I am to dumb to know what photobucket is. Some of those questions were answered on this thread and I really will try to make some time to check it out and maybe learn a new trick. I love to look at the pics on this site and if photobucket will make that better and not have them disappear that's great.
-

Well I have a scanner............but I do have the website that my son is still fiddling with. He changed some of the setups and has not transfered all the pics to the new site yet. I may try to do the PB thing with more of the resto pics......I have all of them on the PC and have backed up a file with most of them on disc .
-
...I have all of them on the PC and have backed up a file with most of them on disc .
use photbucket's BULK UPLOADER & browse your computer & open the folder the pics. are in...SELECT ALL & let ir run...The 1st time I did this it took about 30 minuites to copy a few hundred pics. .... Don't forget to select the size you wand to use, I use 17" screen, so the picture will fit in the frame

All my photo's in some bucket?? :eek7: Never tried this concept . . :dunno: Do they have a file cabinet or something as I can at least figure that out.
-
I prefer Imageshack. No regulations on how many photos. Straight image copy to forum and not your whole portofolio that others can browse thru.
With Photobucket, they tell you that you've exceeded the amount of pictures allowed if you have alot of them.
I'm not big on computers as some here so there might be stuff I'm not aware of.
But Imageshack is simple and straightforward. So I'll stick with that.

There are multiple sub "ALBUMS" so organization is similar to using files...of course you could have multiple accounts, as accounts only seem to require a email address to acquire.

I think a couple of you objections are addressed under account options. Photobucket is at least the 3rd service I have sighed up for, one Yahoo discontinued their service & it was Photobucket that they directed me to & allowed transfer of the photos I had there. I Googled image hosting & see there are dozens of services available.
TC I notice in your resto thread a lot of images are not showing up...need to update :poopoke: :poopoke:
-
One great feature, that photohosting has, is that you can comment between your pics while when using the sites own uploader it isn't possible. Also photobucket (and probably most of the other hosting sites too) is very easy to use if your browser is somewhat up to date. I had some problems with the bulk uploader with bit older browser I had on another computer but an update fixed that.
-
One of Aussie's questions I was interested in, whether other people can view your pics. I believe the 8 billion or so pics are all searchable? So if you have a picture of a widget and someone searches for widgets and your pic comes up and he/she could link to it right? So your pics become public domain?
Not a problem as far as our forum use, but any photos you don't want showing up anywhere on the internet.....
Are there security settings to prevent searching/linking by others?
I just signed up
dodj
-
I'm not real sure as this is has not been an issue for me... Under account options there are three settings that I believe will address this. 1st there is the Public/Private option. I have Allow Checked for copy & see location. I don't know what effect not having them checked will have. I would test but I don't want to screw up the hundreds of photo links I have made.
My album is Public/Private
Allow others to copy my media
Allow others to see image location
-
you can lock it, so no other than the picture liked to can be viewed by others. If you post a picture instead of a link, you wont have the problem at all.. If you don`t choose the private option everyone can see everything in the account.
-
I use my own web site I have set up on a server in my house. I took my old computer and installed server software and wala!!

:dunno: Seems like Dutch's explanation then could be just another source for scamers to show pics of cars even throughout restoration and post them on some web site for sale? Not they will be successful or even get away with it but it seems to open a door of opportunity for these low lifes.
-
I'll conduct an experiment.... I just created a new photobucket account named bethb58. All of the security features are set to private & no share. I have uploaded several photos. One I titled FINDTHISCUDA .. Below is a pic posted from that account. See if you can find other images on the account.

The same could be said for all the pictures uploaded here
-
:dunno: I'm not sure, I was under the impression that unless you were a member here you could not upload pics. In otherwords guest could only access for reading/information purposes, could see the pics but could not do anything with them. I must have been wrong. Along with that thought was the fact guest also cannot make any post here.?
-
I use it...and "no" I couldn't find Bullitt's pics.

Now guests have the same viewing priveledges. The end result could be some guests will stay anonymous from joining the forum now they can see pics we put up with Photobucket etc.

I have had a photobucket account for a while, but since I started using Firefox I can't ever get photobucket to log into my account, says my password is incorrect or something. :banghead:
Yet it opens no problem with Internet explorer. So if I want to post a picture using Photobucket I have to open another browser using IE, upload pictures, then I can go back on c-c.com, and finally make my post with links to my pictures.
It takes way too much time and trouble, I spend way too much of my life online when I should be doing other things anyway. So when posting I spend a few seconds uploading pictures or decide it is more trouble than it is worth if I have to go through the lengthy photobucket routine using IE! Sorry! :dunno:

I started using Firefox several months ago when IE was giving me fits & Photobucket worked fine until I did an upgrade to 3.5.3, then it was like I could not get past the logon screen...then I found a add-on that Firefox offers called ABP. Add Blocker Plus...All works well now.

I just tried that, but then I couldn't log into Photobucket using either Firefox or IE. But then I did their password reset and I was able to get into PB on Firefox! Thanks.

I use it and a couple sites I frequent make it mandatory to post photos with it by not offering the option of adding an attachment. No big deal. If scammers want your photos they will get them. :2cents:

Here's another good feature..... Ever email or receive an email with a bunch of Photos.. or vidieos?.... With a hosted account all you need to do is send a sideshow link... Because this account is set to private you will need a password.. Bullitt
or as in this case post a single link to share a whole bunch of photos.

I like that you can upload MANY pics at one time, but have not figured out how to disable the "add tags" crap after the upload. Not a biggie.
Will try a test with some pics......
Took about 3 seconds to upload 5 pics of my cat, Slippers. They were pretty small, 70K was the biggest. I have 3mbps max DSL connection speed.
http://s449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/quapman/Slippers/ (http://s449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/quapman/Slippers/)
Still beats AOL's FTP space and you don't worry about full uploaders.

I use Imageshack, similar. FWIW

Sorry Wade, wasn't sure what you were after. Didn't know how popular Slippers would be here, so I just went with the album link.
I do use the cut/paste technique on a regular basis and like it! :2thumbs: In fact, most pics in my posts are hosted at the bucket, including my sig pic.
On the hassle scale, it's minimal.
