Title: 70 Challenger R/T 440(Now withpics)
Post by: 06Daytona on May 09, 2011 - 09:02:59 AM
Found one down here. Comes with Goodmark quarters still in the boxes and outer wheel housing and tail panel. Numbers matching running 440 with automatic. Comes with a pile, of parts including spare doors, chrome interior bits, glass, a couple of different rear valances and a whole lot more. The floors look pretty good and the only thing missing is the windshield. I'll have to get a new sail panel, but that appears to be it for now. He's asking 10000. I'm going to get pics and VIN etc at some point.

Pics would realy help us with the price.

But, if it is a true # matching car and an R/T to boot.  his asking price is right in line.

He picked up a 74 Challenger on the weekend as well, and has a 73 or 4 Cuda with a 440 in it as well.

What stands out to me is that VIN tag isn't original. It might be legit, but make sure it matches the number on the radiator support and the one on top of the cowl panel. There also should be a sticker on the driver's door that matches this VIN.

Thanks
I checked that the numbers were the same and they all matched. He has the fender tag as well, but he wasn't home to let me get a pic of it.

That Challenger appears to have been raced hard.  The motor is the wrong color and most likely has been "heavily" raced or modified and who knows if it's still any good.  Lots of little issues that would really make me think hard about giving anywhere near 10K for it.  That front passenger inner fender looks like it might have been in a wreck?  Does it have a bunch of holes in it to try and pull it straight.

I''ll take a closer look at the inner fenders the next time I'm out there and I'll double check the numbers on the engine. I have a friend that has a 72-74 Challenger that snapped in half in the middle, but the inner fenders and a few other parts are still good if I need to patch. I'm going to jack the car up and slide under to take a look at the underside before I make any serious decisions.

I would check the numbers on the block but even then I would think hard before 10k,,most are a labor love but that one has been rode hard,,I would look real close at the frame and other structural areas,,are the new quarters full quarters or are the cheap ones . I would try and get it down on price maybe 7k or 8k ,,personally I wouldn't give  about 7k and it would have to come with full quarters.  :2cents:

It comes with full quarters and outer wheel housings. 70 Challengers are pretty rare down here. I've seen the R/T and supposedly there's a 318 auto car for sale for 7600 but the guy won't talk to me or my wife or her secretary. I'll see if I can talk him down to 8 or 9, but I know he won't go as low as 7. What I might end up doing is holding off until I finish the 72 Charger and sell it and if the Challenger is still there I can get it then.

Firewall is smooothed out.  Hmm...kinda fishy.

440's are cool.  Would be worth it if it was a stick-shift car.

That VIN tag is legit?  I guess possible if the paint was all stripped, but still fishy.

If frame rails are straight, very very little rust, then maybe $8k tops.  Matching numbers engine would help.  I dunno...big project there.

I'm no expert but I'd have a hard time giving 10K for that car?  5-7 K max? Maybe I'm outta touch though?
Just start adding up what it will cost to bring this back? It would be cheaper to buy a finished car in the end I'm thinking?

Walk away. There's a reason it hasn't sold.

He hasn't actually had it up for sale yet. I've decided to spend the 10 grand on sheet metal, shaker and 6 pack for the Cuda instead
