Slapstick shifters
« on: September 10, 2010 - 03:13:42 PM »
How hard are slapstick shifters to come by used, do they sell them new, and what are they like? My car was a 4 speed car (maybe before I was born) when I got it. However someone had put column shift in it, so I put a B&M in it but the original looks so much cooler. I am just weighing the pros/cons, and trying to find out what too look for if I find a unit used any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My car was a column shift from the factory. I swapped out to a slap stick. They are not that hard to find. Here,E-bay, Moparts ..... Type in "slap stick shifter" on E-bay and there are always parts on there. You can see the differences between the 70 and 71-74's also? Keep an eye out on here too as it's a popular swap to install  a 4 speed so someone might have a "package deal" ?
There are 2 Slap stick shifters . One for a 1970 e-body and another for a 71-74 e-body. The 70 shifter uses a round ball and the chrome shaft is round too. The 71-74 uses the t-handle shifter and a squared off chrome shifter shaft.
Mine came with a B&M shifter and I hated it, first thing I took off! I went with a 71-74 as I liked the style better?
You will need,
slap stick shifter,
linkages,( both above ,going through the floor , and under the floor to attach to the tranny, and tranny shifter arm.)
Floor brackets for shifter and console ( they are re-popped new now....?)
Tranny bracket, Your tranny has to have the mounts for the bracket!
Console
Wiring for the shift indicator bulb.

Then you need to see member Quapman ( Steve) on here and get an autogrip shifter!
Very cool, great quality and workmanship too!

How much do the Auto Grip Shifters go for? For Slapstick as well? Cool Look!

Another custom look....still an auto slapstick but someone used a 4 speed shifter boot over top? Looks good I though? The grips Steve ( Quapman) uses are stock replacement for a  pistol grip. Lots of custom choices to replace them!. Carbon fiber, different kinds or real wood, different coloured plastic's etc.....
There are other vendors, gunslinger, shift-r-arm, Harms. But I liked Steve's the best because it sits at the correct angle when it first gear, others do not.
