Narrowing Down Production Date
« on: September 04, 2017 - 05:45:04 PM »
I have a 70 Challenger that was built in LA.  So... it has no build sheet most likely. It also has no fender tag(s).  The VIN pad matches the stamps on the firewall and radiator core. I am not worried about the car.  I have checked with the previous two owners who said it didn't have the tags or build sheet when they owned the car either.

The driver door decal says 11-1969. The front seats have metal tags in them still. The passenger tag says 10-18-69. The driver seat tag says 09-??-69. My Vin ends something like 118XXX.  ( I know the rest of the numbers.)  I have checked to see if a sheet or tag has been found on Barry's website.  No luck yet...

Based on the tags and door sticker the car was built between October 18, 1969 and December 1969.

HERE is my question.   Using the numbers provided, is it possible to approximate the build date for my car?

I know you guys are very knowledgeable. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Unfortunately it is not possible with the fender tag or build sheet. If the door sticker says November 1969 then I'd say it's definitely in that month. That's as close as you'll be able to get.

The month on the door sticker is as close as you will get.  Cars weren't built in VIN order.  Cars usually weren't built on their SPD.  They could have been built weeks before or after the SPD.  Since the sticker was installed at/or close to the end of the line, that's the best thing you have to go by.

I appreciate the replies.

I am still looking for clues as I restore the car.  I am putting on a driver trunk extension and quarter skin.

Thanks again...

My '70 Challenger has a VIN sequence number 100XXX, with an SPD of  August 18, 1969 and mine is out of LA also.
